Before the first evening of the Bacchus Festival got into swing, a jury composed of 22 members sniffed, sipped and spat out 78 different wines produced by the 21 wine producers who were at the festival. The bottles of wine were anonymous but their contents consisted of 22 white, 21 rosé, 22 reds, and 13 natural mild wines. All of the judges made their assessments noting the smell, their looks and of course their intensity and quality. The best noted were awarded the Bacchus prize in each category as well as a special Bacchus Prize of Honour and a Coup de Coeur given by Ibrahim Maalouf who was appearing on the last evening of the 3-day Festival.
The beautiful surroundings of Château Valmy contributed, of course, to such an occasion with the wine-tasting taking place in one of the restaurants dining areas. The prizes for each category were kept secret until the presentation on the final evening.
